Celtic settlement discovered near the largest Iron Age treasure

Remember the amazing detectorist find of the world' s largest hoard of Celtic coins? Its value is enormous, its provenance still a matter of conjecture. But scientists have recently discovered the remains of a settlement here that is probably closely related to the treasure and may explain why it was deposited here.

Unique detector discovery of gold and silver coins from the 1st century

Near Bunnik, in the Dutch province of Utrecht, two amateur archaeologists with metal detectors have discovered a hoard of Roman and British coins from the 1st century. The hoard contains Celtic staters and Roman aurei. In the context of European archaeological finds, this is the largest such collection.

During the reconstruction of the Church of St. Andrew in the German town of Eisleben, a real treasure was discovered. In the hollow leg of the statue of the Count at the Mansfeld family tomb were four leather pouches containing gold and silver coins. For almost 400 years, no one had any idea about them.

Amateur archaeologists find a hoard of gold Roman coins of nine emperors

A set of 141 Roman gold solidi from the late 4th century was discovered in the Um Rank field near Holzthum, Luxembourg. These are the coins of nine emperors who ruled between 364 and 408. This is an absolutely exceptional coin set, unparalleled in the archaeological record of Luxembourg. The find amounts to almost 8 million crowns.

A rare treasure of silver coins from the 11th century

Nearly 1,000-year-old silver coins in excellent condition have been discovered during excavations at the site of a future nuclear power station in England. They were found by a team of archaeologists from Oxford Cotswold Archaeology. They were wrapped in a tight package made up of strips of cloth and lead.
