Astronomers have announced one of the most important discoveries of the year: the extremely early dusty star-forming galaxy AC-2168. It is an object with a confirmed spectral redshift of zₛₚₑc = 6.631 - from an extremely distant and very early phase of the Universe. It is estimated to have formed approximately 850 million years after the Big Bang. Its light has been travelling towards us for over 13 billion years.
