Discrimination - NOTCH
Variable discrimination settings, often referred to as "notch discrimination" , is a feature on metal detectors that allows users to purposely ignore or accept signals from specific types of metals or conductivities. This feature is very useful for increasing search efficiency by reducing the number of unwantedlesions, such as aluminum cans or other common trash, and focuses on more valuable targets.
How it works

Target Selection: a metal detector with this feature will typically display the conductivity of the metal being detected on a scale that is typically divided into a range of values (for example, 1-99 on many detectors Minelab or Garrett). Each value on this scale represents a different type of metal from iron to silver.

The user can specify which values on this scale he wants the detector to ignore. In this way it is possible to 'notch out' certain segments of conductivity. For example, if the user wants to ignore all findings that correspond to the conductivity of aluminium caps, he can set the detector to ignore these signals.
