Metal detector finds Britain's largest Iron Age treasure; now on display

An exhibition has opened at the Yorkshire Museum which, for the first time ever, introduces the public to one of the most significant archaeological discoveries of recent decades in Britain. The treasure was discovered in December 2021 by metal detectorist prospectorist Peter Heads near the village of Melsonby in North Yorkshire. The assemblage contains over 800 Iron Age objects. The value exceeds 7.3 million crowns.

Stolen 2,400 year old golden helmet from Coțofenești found after a year

The Dutch and Romanian authorities have managed to track down one of the most valuable artefacts of the Dacia heritage. The golden helmet, an extremely rare part of Romania's national treasure, was stolen in a spectacular robbery of the Drenthe Museum in Assen, the Netherlands, where it had been temporarily loaned from Romania. Along with it, three gold bracelets were also stolen.

In 2023, a hoard of coins was found in Glencoe, Scotland, linked to a raid by the MacDonald clan in 1692. They were lying in the ruins of a fireplace after the owner's house had been raided by a crew of cunning men. It will now be displayed in a local museum, not far from the site of its discovery.
