A rare artefact has been discovered in the forest area of Starachowice, reliving the dramatic moments of the Polish defence in September 1939. Searchers with metal detectors from the "Grupa Ochrony Zabytków Fort" discovered a silver head of a regimental battalion in the shape of an eagle with a battalion belt and fragments of cloth. The objects had remained hidden for nearly 86 years; from the moment when members of the 12th Light Artillery Regiment hid them to prevent them from falling into enemy hands.

The last day of the excavation yielded a magnificent gold Roman ring

Archaeologists from the Regional History Museum in Vidin, Bulgaria, discovered a gold wedding ring from the 2nd to 3rd century during their excavation of the Roman fortress of Bononia. Unique 2,700-year-old double-edged sword of a Saxon warrior

The archaeological team of the Karaganda Regional Museum in Kazakhstan has announced a significant discovery: the intact grave of a Saxon warrior with a wealth of equipment. It contained personal items and weapons, most notably a unique double-edged bronze sword from the 7th century BC.

In the Hampshire suburb of Milford-on-Sea, a couple discovered a well-preserved set of early 15th-century Tudor gold coins while gardening. The set also included some very rare coins; two of the coins broke the auction record. The hoard has now been auctioned for 13 million crowns.
