Subsequent archaeological research has produced a number of exciting discoveries, including an Iron Age settlement and a spectacular Roman villa.

Ironworking technology in the Iberian Peninsula did not appear until around 850 BC, but these objects are at least 600 years older. Only new analyses have finally confirmed: the iron objects in the hoard are of extraterrestrial origin.

During the reconstruction of the banks of the Korte Linschoten river in Montfoort, the Netherlands, a thousand-year-old sword with inlays and significant symbolism was discovered. It was dug up by an excavator during the dredging of a dyke. The sword is very well preserved, incredibly light and dexterous. It was obviously custom-made, and must have been one of the absolute finest in its day.

In 2015, George Powell and Layton Davies found more than 300 silver coins and gold jewellery in a field in Herefordshire. At the time, they photographed their find and shared it on social media, but did not report it to the authorities. When police later arrested them, they found just 31 coins. The rest had disappeared to an unknown destination. It was only recently that one of the coins from the hoard turned up at auction.
