A 2,000-year-old treasure from the early Roman Empire has been discovered in a forest near the German village of Borsum. It is one of the largest Roman treasures ever discovered in Lower Saxony. It consists of 450 silver coins, several silver ingots, one gold coin and a gold ring. It was found by a detectorist without a search warrant. He kept the find a secret for a long time for fear of reprisals, but recently turned it in and started a new chapter in his life.

Archaeologists have found the oldest known workshop for making necklaces and ornaments from mollusc shells in Western Europe. The finds date back to the Upper Palaeolithic, from the site of La Roche-à-Pierrot in the village of Saint-Césaire in the Charente-Maritime department. They are at least 42 000 years old.
