Unique 3 000 year old British bronze sickle

Archaeologists from the French Institute for Preventive Archaeological Research (Inrap) recently discovered a beautifully preserved sickle from the Late Bronze Age. It is a sickle with an attachment; a very rare variant of British origin. It is evidence of the boom in trade and metalworking between the continent and the British Isles during the Atlantic Bronze Age.

Czechs reconstruct faces of women who worked hard in mines 6,000 years ago

Recently, three-dimensional reconstructions of the faces of two prehistoric nurses who worked in the harsh conditions of the horn mines in southern Moravia more than 6,000 years ago were presented to the public. The Krumlovský les mining site, which has been studied for decades by study co-author Martin Oliva, has thus acquired a completely new, human dimension.

A detectorist in southern Moravia discovered unique armour from the Trojan War

The discovery is quite exceptional in the European context; it is only the second such example on our territory.

Eighty years on, a rare ancient mosaic stolen during the Second World War has returned to Pompeii. The beautiful, well-preserved artefact depicts an intimate scene between a man and a woman. It was stolen in 1944 by a German Wehrmacht officer, then serving as a supply officer in Italy.

Third time's the charm: Guild detectorists discover third treasure in five weeks

It started at the end of May near the Polish town of Kalisz, when a search for the remains of V2 rockets first found one container with 631 objects, including coins from the early Middle Ages. Three weeks later, just a few hundred metres from the first find, a second pot of treasure was discovered. And this week a third pottery vessel was found; this time with Roman gold.

The Detector Society discovered a treasure trove of coins from the Thirty Years' War

A group of amateur prospectors with metal detectors discovered hundreds of scattered coins from the 17th century in the Jadów area of eastern Poland. They date from the turbulent reign of Polish King John II. Casimir Vasa, from the time of his currency reform.

Detectorists find 2,000-year-old silver treasure in Transylvania

In the Romanian village of Beresztelke, a pair of detectorists discovered a unique set of jewels from the Dacian period. It consists of several silver jewellery items weighing a total of 550 grams. It probably belonged to a high-ranking nobleman or aristocrat. It is the first ever Dacian discovery in this locality.

Two early medieval treasures discovered in Poland, also contain Czech coins

Two treasure jars were found near the town of Kalisz in central Poland over the course of several days. The finds were made by members of the Denar association, who were originally searching for the remains of a German V-2 rocket from the Second World War in the area. The first vessel contains silver coins, fragments and jewellery from the 11th century. The second is even more interesting - it comes from outside Central Europe.
