A coin from a sold-out treasure trove has turned up

In 2015, George Powell and Layton Davies found more than 300 silver coins and gold jewellery in a field in Herefordshire. At the time, they photographed their find and shared it on social media, but did not report it to the authorities. When police later arrested them, they found just 31 coins. The rest had disappeared to an unknown destination. It was only recently that one of the coins from the hoard turned up at auction.

Archaeologists from the Arkeologerna team have discovered a silver Viking treasure in the village of Täby near Stockholm. Excavations in the Viggbyholm area uncovered a large settlement dating from between 500 and 1050 AD, including 34 buildings, a burial site and more than 1 450 artefacts. Silver jewellery and coins were hidden in a ceramic container under the floor of one of the houses.

Crichel Treasure: Detectorists discover 3,000-year-old rare gold jewellery

In the spring of 2022, a set of three Bronze Age gold objects were recovered using metal detectors in the Long Crichel area of Dorset.
