Silver sabretache, coins, gold jewellery and weapons in the graves of elite warriors from the 10th century.

An archaeological excavation in the village of Akasztó in southern Hungary has yielded the extraordinary discovery of three richly furnished graves of elite cavalry warriors from the period of the Hungarian conquest of the Carpathian Basin. They were young boys and an adult man - all related. The graves contained weapons, jewellery, rare silver coins, gold and silver decorated belts, including a horse harness. They were dated between 920 and 930 AD and are among the most important discoveries from this period.

Archaeologists in Shaanxi province have uncovered a luxurious Tang Dynasty tomb. Its chamber was in pristine condition and lavishly furnished; it contained pottery, bronze objects, gold and silver artifacts, including a gold comb or Western-style silver cup or Persian silver coins. The tomb is also unique for its surviving inscriptions: they reveal the owner's name, her status and date of death.

The coin was discovered by a prospector with a metal detector near Lelley Hull in East Yorkshire. It is an extremely rare gold staters of the Corieltavi tribe, of the "Five-Pellet Domino" type, dating between 50-10 BC. It was auctioned on Thursday for three times the price of a regular four-pellet staters.

The ring, dating from the 9th to 11th centuries, was discovered by archaeologist Linda Åsheim of the Norwegian Institute for Cultural Heritage Research (NIKU) using a metal detector while supervising a drainage excavation in the historic core of Tønsberg, Norway. It lay at a depth of only 7 cm and was completely intact, in its original context. The discovery is exceptional in the Norwegian context.

Schoolboy Lucas Cunliffe from Newton Aycliffe in County Durham has discovered the unique decorated hilt end of a medieval sword using a metal detector . It bears a devotional inscription, crosses and other engravings. Experts have tentatively dated it to the 13th century. It is an extremely rare find - there are only six other similar examples in the whole of Britain.

Israeli archaeologists discover golden Byzantine treasure in early Christian monastery

In the ruins of a Christian monastery in the Judean Desert, a golden treasure dating back to the first half of the 7th century was discovered. The former Christian monastery was located about 17 km east of Jerusalem in the West Bank. It disappeared in the 8th century, guarding the treasure continuously for 1,400 years.

"Mysterious" medieval seal with Roman intaglio worth millions

A prospector with a metal detector discovered a rare medieval seal in a field, the central part of which is a 2,000-year-old Roman engraved stone. The artefact with the mysterious inscription represents a combination of two time horizons at least 1,200 years apart.

That's how Jonathan Needham from Staffordshire described his find this spring. When he posted it on social media, it caused a stir - the supposedly modern scrap turned out to be one of the rarest gold clasps from the Bronze Age.

Silver denarii from the 13th century

Over 700,000 archaeological objects have been discovered during extensive archaeological research in the German district of Molkenmarkt in Mitte. Among the most interesting are a Japanese sword from the 17th century and a newly discovered set of silver denarii from the second half of the 13th century.
