He found a medieval gold ring in the search field. It'll net him hundreds of thousands

Sixty-three-year-old Ickburgh arborist Richard Girling was looking in a field he had explored countless times. Occasionally he found a nice coin, but mostly he found rubbish. But recently he made a find he describes as "one of his best artefacts". He discovered a gold love ring dating from the 13th to 14th centuries.

Two metres down was a one-kilogram gold neck warmer

The 2,000-year-old neckcloth was discovered during excavations in Trollhättan, Sweden. It was lying at a depth of two metres at the interface between layers of mud and sand. It consists of a gold core wrapped with gold wire along its entire length - including the ends. This is only the 3rd necklace discovered in Sweden. It ranks among the most important Scandinavian archaeological finds of the last decades.

Celtic settlement discovered near the largest Iron Age treasure

A 2,600-year-old gold treasure was discovered in Karnak

Egypt's Ministry of Tourism and Antiquities announced over the weekend the discovery of a hoard of gold jewelry and other artifacts dating back to the early 26th Dynasty. The assemblage of gold rings, amulets, statuettes, a necklace and other items was placed in a ceramic vessel in the northwest sector of the Karnak temples. It was discovered by an Egyptian-French team of archaeologists.

Detectorists discover a rare treasure trove of gold and silver from the War of the Roses

A rare two-handed sword and two axes from the late Middle Ages

Members of the detectorist association GRYF - Biskupieckie Stowarzyszenie Detektorystyczne found an exceptionally well-preserved sword from the 14th century. It was discovered during a legal detector survey near the village of Wielka Tymawa. Two axes from the 14th-15th centuries were discovered in the excavation along with the sword.

3,000-year-old goldsmith's anvil in a Bronze Age treasure

An extremely rare Bronze Age anvil has been discovered in a field in Urchfont, Wiltshire, using metal detectors. It is part of a hoard of several copper alloy objects and ingots deposited between 1650 and 900 BC.

Detector discovery of an Iron Age bronze ritual spoon

A ritual bronze spoon, over 2,000 years old, has been discovered near the town of Patrick on the west coast of the Isle of Man. It was probably used in divination rituals. Only 27 similar examples are known in the world, this is the first from the Isle of Man. It was given to the finder without payment.
