Archaeologists find 1,300-year-old grave of Frankish warrior with "full field"

During an archaeological excavation of an early medieval cemetery in Ingelheim, Germany, an intact grave of a Merovingian warrior from the 7th century was discovered with complete armour. He was very lucky; although he lay between two looted graves, his rich equipment remained intact for 1300 years.

Detectorists in collaboration with archaeologists have discovered more medieval silver coins from an ancient hoard

A set of almost 1,000-year-old coins was found on the site of a former medieval fortress in the village of Wiślica in southern Poland. The discovery was made as part of an ongoing revitalisation programme, which includes archaeological work following 60 years of research. The experts worked with the local detectorist association; their work is highly regarded.

Detective finds gold ring; could belong to Sheriff of Nottingham

Andy Taylor of Lincoln found the 460-year-old ring three years ago during a club event in a field at Rushcliff, about 40 miles from Sherwood Forest. In the 16th century, rings like this were a popular symbol, used to convey secret messages and declarations of love between the giver and the recipient. Given the circumstances of the find, some experts believe it may have been part of the hoard of the Sheriff of Nottingham or a member of his family.

A rare treasure trove of medieval hrivens - long bars of high quality silver - was found in Lithuania

A treasure trove of massive Lithuanian silver coins from the 13th to 14th centuries was discovered during the exploration of the defunct 19th-century Kriveikiskis estate near the village of Kernavė, about 30 km from Vilnius. There were a total of 4 long bars in the excavation, which must have represented quite a fortune in their time.

A large Gothic cemetery from the Migration period discovered in Poland

A 4th and 5th century Gothic cemetery has been uncovered in Stara Rzeczyca on the site of the Wdecki protected landscape area in northern Poland. Fifty graves have been excavated so far, covering an area of about 250 m2, but it is estimated that the entire cemetery covers at least a hectare. Jewellery, brooches, amber and glass beads, pottery and everyday objects such as spindle whorls and bone combs have been discovered in the contents of pit and urn graves.

Three detectorists discover a rare hoard of Celtic gold staters - the first in Wales

The coins were found scattered in a field at Llangoed on the Isle of Anglesey between July 2021 and March 2022 by detectorists Lloyd Roberts, Peter Cockton and Tim Watson. These are the first Iron Age gold coins discovered in Wales. This makes it one of the most important discoveries of national significance.
