3/13/1938 Statue discovered by the Nazis made of meteorite

In the 1930s, a Nazi expedition discovered a statue carved from a very valuable meteorite. It's believed to be about a thousand years old and has a swastika on its belly. The statue weighs ten kilograms and stands 24 centimetres tall.

Andrew Robertshaw from Surrey, UK, dug the 18-metre-long trenches in his garden. It's a perfect replica of the First World War. The military historian and teacher was helped to build the trenches by friends who had returned from Afghanistan.

Eleven years ago, experts from the Hussite Museum in Tábor found an archaeological gem in Bechyně. They came across the remains of Celtic huts in the local square. They included a furnace, which the archaeologists also discovered.

An interesting find was made five years ago at a site in Znojmo where a garage was planned. It was a giant iron boiler from the tenth century. Its capacity was seventy to one hundred litres. It was preserved in its entirety.

The beautiful cup was discovered by archaeologists five years ago in Veselá Street in Brno. It probably had a decorative and representative function. Similar specimens from the fifteenth and sixteenth centuries come from Prague or Plzeň.

The unique grave was discovered four years ago by archaeologists in Vyškov. A woman was buried there, holding a baby close to her. The grave was located in an industrial zone and dates back to the Bronze Age.

Jewellery worth many millions of dollars from the 19th and 20th centuries was found in 1994 during the construction works in the courtyard of today's headquarters of the Sokolov Museum. It included a gold watch with a chain, brooches with diamonds, bracelets and a headband.

A jug in the shape of a treasure box containing 537 silver and gold coins was found in 1962 near the Januštice stream. A gold ducat was lying at the very top of the jar. The coins date from the 16th and 17th centuries.

Seven years ago, a new production hall was built on the outskirts of Písek in an industrial zone. At the same time, archaeologists were conducting research there. They discovered the remains of prehistoric villages. They found a total of ninety objects.

A missing World War II plane has been identified in the remote Indian Himalayas nearly 80 years after it crashed. The search for it has been treacherous indeed. Three guides died in a snowstorm.
