The Western Roman Empire ended in 476 when the last Roman emperor, Romulus Augustus, was crushed by the Visigothic invasion of Italy. It existed for 503 years and 6 months. Rome became a forgotten city in a forgotten land.

Charles IV emphasised his position as King of Bohemia and placed great emphasis on the external aspects of his power. Therefore, he also tried to draw attention to his position on ceremonial occasions. The most important of these was his coronation as King of Bohemia.

When Germany invaded Poland on 1 September 1939, the French government declared a general mobilisation in accordance with the Allied agreement and prepared for war. The borders with Germany were closed and the evacuation of the civilian population from the border areas began.

Nazdar Company was the first Czech national unit, formed on 31 August 1914 and was assigned as the 1st Company of Battalion C of the Marching Regiment of the Foreign Legion. It had 250 men divided into four platoons and was commanded by French Captain Marie Léon Joseph Sallé.

30.8.1813 Battle of Chlumec

Twenty thousand soldiers died in the Napoleonic battle of Chlumec in 1813. The arrival of the Prussians with General Kleist was decisive and the French were defeated. The battlefield was littered with corpses.

29.8. 1944 Slovak National Uprising began

The Slovak National Uprising broke out on 29 August 1944, with Banská Bystrica as its centre. The aim was to liberate Slovakia in cooperation with the advancing Red Army and to restore the existence of Czechoslovakia.

28.8. 1914 First Battle of Helgoland Bay

The Battle of Helgoland Bay was part of the First World War. The Royal Navy attacked on 28 August 1914. Precise British fire soon sent two German ships to the bottom before reinforcements arrived. The fighting ended in a British victory.

27.8. 1813 Battle of Dresden

During the campaign through Germany, Napoleon's troops also clashed with the enemy at Dresden. The clash lasted two days on 26 and 27 August 1813. France won, losing ten thousand men.

26. 8. 1278

26.8. 1278 Battle on the Moravian Field

Rudolf, in an attempt to humble his rival, provoked another conflict. The decisive clash took place on 26 August 1278 on the Moravian Field in Lower Austria. King Přemysl Otakar II died in battle.

25.8. 1944 Destructive bombing of Brno

Brno was bombed at the end of World War II. The industrial city became the target of Allied air raids. The first one came on August 25, 1944, killing 200 people.
