14.2.2005 Tsunami revealed the lost city

Sixteen years ago, archaeologists reported that the December 2004 tsunami helped uncover another part of the ancient port city of Mahabalipuram in Tamil Nadu, India. The killer waves shifted thousands of tons of sand. Suddenly, granite statues that scientists say are the remains of a seventh-century civilisation were on display.

Four years ago, Kevin Duckett used a metal detector to find a gold figurine. It depicts King Henry VI of England. The latest theory is that it was part of the Tudor crown. This idea is now being tested by experts at the British Museum.

The rare helmet of a Greek warrior was discovered in 2007 by workers during dredging work in the port of Haifa. Nine years ago, experts published details of the artifact. The helmet was made of bronze, decorated with gold and animal motifs.

A unique sapphire ring was found by Michael Greenhorn of Clifton Moor, York. And in 2009, eight years ago, experts published further information about the jewel. They found it was apparently made in France.
