2.8. 1934 Hitler appointed German leader

Hitler used the death of President Hindenburg to combine the functions of President and Chancellor and to take personal command of the armed forces. Abolishing the title of Reich President, he began to refer to himself as "Führer and Reich Chancellor".

1.8. 1798 Battle of Abu-Kir

The first day of August 1798 brought one of the greatest clashes of the revolutionary and post-revolutionary years. It took place during Bonaparte's expedition just off the coast of Abu-Kir Bay, east of Alexandria.

31.7. 1527 King Maximilian II is born.

After his accession to the throne, Maximilian II, as Roman Emperor and King of Bohemia and Hungary, followed his more conciliatory Catholic father. He had fifteen children. He died as a result of heart and kidney failure.

30.7. 1419 The first Prague defenestration

The defenestration of the anti-Hussite constables in Prague's New Town simply returned the whole of Prague into Hussite hands and gave the king to understand that the Hussites would not retreat. It began on July 30, 1419.

28.7. 1420 Coronation of Sigismund as King of Bohemia

Sigismund became King of Bohemia in the presence of an incomplete number of lords and Prague constables. At the same time, he knighted many knights who had no knightly deeds behind them. But the ceremonial act was useless to Sigismund anyway.

According to many historians, Jan Bezzemek was not a good ruler. He did not enjoy ruling, he did not gain the support of his English subjects and he allowed very powerful and dangerous opponents to stand against him. He failed even at the Battle of Bouvines, which took place in July 1214.

26.7. 1648 Swedes besiege Prague

They plundered the Rudolphine collections at Prague Castle and also the Břevnov and Strahov monasteries, as well as the houses of noblemen and townspeople. The Swedish army invaded Prague in July 1648.

25.7. 1942 The Battle of the Caucasus began

Hitler planned to take over the oil fields around Baku. However, he failed to do so and the so-called Battle of the Caucasus ended in a fiasco for the Third Reich. Hitler almost had a nervous breakdown.

Alfons Mucha is one of our most important painters. He is the author of the Slavic Epic, which is still disputed today. The turning point in his career came when his poster was commissioned by the then star Sarah Bernhardt.

23. 7. 1895

23 July 1895 General František Moravec was born

He was born in Čáslav as one of ten children of an official bailiff. After grammar school, he studied at the Faculty of Philosophy of Charles University, which he did not complete because he had to enlist in Čáslav in 1915. He graduated from officer's school and then went with the 12th Infantry Regiment to Kanizha in Hungary.
