On Wednesday 12 August 2026, one of the greatest astronomical events of the current decade will take place over Europe. For the first time since 1999, a total solar eclipse will be visible on the European continent, attracting hundreds of thousands of observers from all over the world. Whilst residents of northern Spain, Iceland and Greenland will be able to admire several tens of seconds of total darkness and the magnificent solar corona, most of Europe, including the Czech Republic, will experience a very pronounced partial eclipse.
