Amateur archaeologist Oliver Riedl has discovered a hoard of nearly a thousand silver Roman denarii in a field near Wesseling in Germany. Weighing over 3 kilograms, it is the largest hoard from that period ever found in Germany.

Celtic silver coins of the Prague type have been found beneath a former sports ground in Thuringia

Archaeologists in the Thuringian village of Singen have found 2,000-year-old Celtic silver coins – known as ‘quinarii’. They made the discovery whilst carrying out excavations beneath a former sports ground, where a new fire station is due to be built.

He discovered a 3,000-year-old grave containing bracelets in the garden of his own house

Whilst carrying out excavation work on the grounds of a house in Uzbekistan, a local resident came across human remains and a large collection of elaborately decorated bronze jewellery. Archaeologists have provisionally dated them to the Late Bronze Age.

A metal detectorist has discovered thousands of silver Viking coins. He has broken the national record

Finnish metal detectorist Kalle Lappinen has made the find of a lifetime. In a wood near the town of Sysmä, he stumbled upon a huge hoard of silver coins and other objects from the Late Iron Age. It is the largest Viking coin hoard ever discovered in Finland.

A metal detectorist has found a hoard of silver thalers, including coins from the reign of Rudolf II.

A coin hoard dating from the late 16th century has been discovered beneath the Hungarian hill of Somló. The collection consists of silver thalers from various parts of Europe, including coins minted by Rudolf II, King of Bohemia and Holy Roman Emperor. One of Rudolf’s coins helped archaeologists determine when the hoard was buried.
