It began with a single clear signal at Manticore and the discovery of a gold-plated fitting. Within a few hours, however, it became clear that this was not an isolated find. The discoveries gradually spread across an area more than a hundred metres long, and after two years of searching, mapping and waiting, they eventually led the discoverers to an extraordinary archaeological excavation. The story you’ll read in this article comes from a friend of ours in Hungary, and I think it’s really worth a read!

On a country lane near the Danish town of Rold, a local resident spotted something glinting. He discovered two gold bracelets that were partially protruding from the ground. He reported the find, and a subsequent metal-detector survey uncovered a further four gold bracelets. They are among the largest Viking gold finds in Denmark. They have now been put on public display.

We’ve launched a new full-text search engine called Manticore on Lovci Pokladů, which searches virtually the entire website. Give it a go and let us know if it fails to find something, if the results don’t make sense, or if there’s anything else about it that annoys you.

A griffin really isn’t something you come across every day on LP, and it’s a truly extraordinary find. This one was taken to the museum just a few days after it was found, and in the article you can read an interview with the lucky finder.
