The 11th Infantry Regiment (Infanterieregiment Nr. 11) was one of the oldest infantry regiments of the Habsburg Army. The regiment was founded in 1629 and formed during the War of the Spanish Succession as one of the newly established infantry regiments of the monarchy. The regiment arrived in Písek in 1805, but only for a short time. The regiment was not permanently established there until 1853.

We are once again on the Russian front of the First World War. After the articles about Vladivostok and USAT Sherman I decided to write one more article to complete the story. As I have already mentioned, my grandfather, after arriving on the Eastern Front, survived the attack and massacre caused by the Don Cossacks and, seriously wounded, was taken to the village of Gornostayevka where he served for five long years on the farm of the Cossack Shimanovsky. Who were these fearsome warriors whose name inspired respect across Europe?

A rare artefact has been discovered in the forest area of Starachowice, reliving the dramatic moments of the Polish defence in September 1939. Searchers with metal detectors from the "Grupa Ochrony Zabytków Fort" discovered a silver head of a regimental battalion in the shape of an eagle with a battalion belt and fragments of cloth. The objects had remained hidden for nearly 86 years; from the moment when members of the 12th Light Artillery Regiment hid them to prevent them from falling into enemy hands.

Vladivostok, once a remote Russian city at the end of the world, became in the spring of 1921 the last refuge of thousands of our soldiers captured during the First World War on the Russian front. The harbour was full of soldiers, military patrols, sailors and ship workers, and there was a constant maritime bustle that mingled with a colourful mix of nationalities.

In 2014, I published an article on LP describing my grandfather's entry into World War I, his departure to the Russian front and his capture by the Don Cossacks. At the end of the article I also briefly outlined his return from captivity by way of Vladivostok...

Most of you may not know the man of this name, as Josef Kytka is exclusively associated with Milevsko, the town with the oldest monastery in South Bohemia and the only Romanesque basilica in South Bohemia.

I think every searcher knows that. Finding a HAND knob with or without a number is a very common thing, but few people probably know what is behind which number or even the colour of the knob. I've managed to put together a little overview of how the country's regiments. The information corresponds to the year 1914/1915. The button findings have been completed. Plus descriptions of the mountain hunting battalions and also the provincial gendarmerie headquarters.

After a long time, Wladislav and I prepared a "war special" for all warriors with metal detectors on LP. Wladyslav took the trouble to select the best wartime finds and since we are 80 years away from the end of WWII we added a little something.
