Coat of arms button of the City of Prague (All) – metal detector findings

This category is intended for buttons bearing the coat of arms of the City of Prague. These buttons were mainly used on the uniforms of city officials, firemen, constables or other city employees, mainly from the 19th century to the mid-20th century.

The coat of arms of the City of Prague usually depicts a Gothic gate with three towers, from which an armed knight emerges. In some variants it is supplemented by a lion or other heraldic motifs. Buttons with this motif were most often made of brass or copper alloys, have an embossed design and vary according to the period of use and the particular office or unit to which they belonged.

These finds are an interesting document of the municipal administration and its institutions in a historical context. It is advisable to record the diameter, material, type of handle and location of the button found - these details help to make identification and dating more accurate.
